3. Mad King Ludwig - The Castles Of Mad King Ludwig

Castles was clearly designed by someone who looked at Bavarian castle architecture and thought 'That big house thing looks mental'. Players compete to build the castle that best matches Mad King Ludwig's ludicrous specifications. But we could really do with some background on games eponymous monarch.

If I was genuinely an architect in this situation, I'd question bidding for a contract from someone whose first name is 'Mad' because that's why you end up building a castle that's 80% garden and built mainly from L shaped structures.

We could also look into what caused Ludwig to go mad in matters specifically relating to architecture? Were his parents killed a freak architecture accident? Was it his dream to study architecture but he didn't get the necessary grades at A-Level so he ended up having to settle for being King instead? Or maybe he just likes living in weird shaped castles.
