5 Disturbing Facts About Sleep That Will Freak You Out

5. Not Sleeping The Proper Amount Is Linked To Shorter Life-Spans

An improper amount of sleep constitutes more than just lack of sleep. You could also be sleeping too much. It's a lot like expressing love for a friend. Express no love at all and that friend will shrink and die (I neglected my best friend in high school. Poor Aaron started freshman year 6'5 and at his funeral he was a mere 4'5). But display too much affection and you might be looking at a lawsuit or a relationship. The best way to prove you care is with the gift of a ficus. People respect keen taste in plant life and there's nothing more eloquent than a ficus. By analyzing data from over 16 studies, which comprised a total of 1.5 million participants, researchers found a substantial link between risk of death and how much we sleep. Individuals who frequently visited night-night time for less than 6 hours were 12% more likely to die over a period of 25 years. Trends also revealed an escalated threat to the whole "living" thing to those who slept too much. Professor Francesco Cappucio, head of the Sleep, Health and Society Programme at the University of Warwick (Surprisingly enough he also collects pigeon feathers. That's a lie. He doesn't. Someone should though), explained: "While short sleep may represent a cause of ill-health, long sleep is believed to represent more an indicator of ill-health." What this means is that sleep deprivation can be the result of a medical issue, whereas longer sleeps could be the symptom of an underlying problem. Things to take away: 1. Everyone you have ever met would love to receive a personalized ficus from you. 2. Not sleeping the proper amount of time is the new adrenaline rush of 2014: "Hey man, wanna go base-jumping?" "Don't be a wimp Craig, Bouschon and I are gonna sleep for 5 and a half hours. Screw the consequences. I am as wild as a schizophrenic wolf! "
