5. Amazon Don't Pay Taxes
They don't. They should, but they don't. And that's not on. Why should a company as large as Amazon a company that makes full use of our labour, our power, our land, our roads and our loyalty be exempt from putting anything back into our struggling economy? No, seriously. I'm yet to hear a single justification for this behaviour.
So too are Frances and Keith Smith. They run the Kenilworth and Warwick bookshops, and late last year, they let loose with a defiant now look
here!. It's egregious enough that Amazon should apparently believe themselves to be above something as absolutely necessary as paying taxes, but bear in mind that their huge business lays waste to such small businesses as that run by the Smiths businesses that
do pay taxes. Businesses that know people, that add colour and diversity to our towns and high-streets. Businesses that care about the things they sell perhaps even more than they care about profit. That's why they started a petition. They've already garnered a lot of support and have secured an audience with the government. But the more support they can show their argument to have, the stronger their case will be. If you ask me, their case would be watertight even if theirs were the only signatures present. I mean, seriously, why
shouldn't Amazon pay their taxes? Everyone else does. So if you think this behaviour's out of order, you can find their petition
here.
