3. The Sense Of Humour
If you're reading this, chances are you already know and love Matt Stone and Trey Parker's sense of humour. Their particular brand of wit is ever-present. Thankfully, they keep the toilet humour to a minimum. That's not to say The Book of Mormon is particularly mature, but the humour really comes from the ridiculousness of organised religion in general. If you're an Atheist, you will likely get a lot more laughs out of it, but even those of a religious persuasion will find humour here. Being predisposed to the duo's particular brand of comedy means you will get a lot more out of the comedy, but the way the humour is interwoven into not only the general dialogue, but the songs means that there's something for everyone. There's some great nods to popular culture, including an abundance of Star Wars references. Some of the funniest moments come from the naivety of Elder Cunningham, the bumbling sidekick. This is truly his story and the character has some of the funniest lines. Playing off the ignorant American stereotype pays well, with Cunningham at times baffled that Uganda isn't more like The Lion King. It may not be clever, but The Book of Mormon is one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen across all forms of media.
