2. The Songs
No musical is complete without songs, right? Well, Book of Mormon has some of the best comedy songs I've ever heard and they absolutely outshine what we've heard from South Park: The Movie and Team America. The lyrics in the songs are often the funniest parts of the scenes around them. The dialogue is great, but the music is as perfect as you'd want. Great lyrics are one thing, but the best part for me was that hours after leaving the theater I was still humming the tunes. Every song is unique and catchy. There is no filler here. Every song has its place, none of them are put in for the sake of it. Everyone's voices are spot on and when songs like "All-American Prophet" fully kick in, you'll be wanting to dance in the aisles (I don't recommend this...those steps are steep!) and sing along with the cast. The music is bombastic and clever in all the right places. Particular highlights are the Lion King-esque "Hasa Digga Eebowai", "Turn It Off" and "Man Up", which gives Elder Cunningham a moment in the spotlight. If you're not singing these songs when you leave the theater, you're likely dead inside. If you want to listen to the cast recording, I highly recommend checking it out on Spotify. It's better when you have some context as to where the songs fit into the story, but you'll get a kick out of the lyrics either way.
