5 Secret Historical Codes That Have Still Not Been Cracked
1. The Voynich Manuscript
Looking at the Voynich Manuscript is a rather creepy ordeal. The entire thing is a 240-page mystery written by an unknown author, in an unknown language, full of unknown images. So, as you can expect, countless people are desperate to unlock its secrets.
If you looked into the manuscript, you wouldn't just find strange words but also drawings of unrecognisable plants, astrological charts, nudes of nymphs and plenty more. This has led experts to conclude that the manuscript could be alchemic or magical in nature. But that's about all we've got going when it comes to figuring it out.
The book was discovered by Wilfred Voynich in 1912 but could have an even further history of code-crackers trying to decipher it. Researchers believe that Holy Roman Emperor Rudolph II got his hands on the book in the 1600s and hired the best people he could to crack it, but they all fell short. It has a history, then, not only of being a secret to us, but to emperors too.
No one from the past or present seems to know what to make of it, and you can certainly add the future to that list as well, because it seems we weren't meant to solve this one.
