5 Things Apple Must Do To Stay Relevant In 2014

5. Stop Trying To Be Google

It makes sense for Apple to try and mimic Google's expert talent at collecting and utilizing mass heaps of data, but if there's one thing that Apple has never really been good at, it's trying to be everything to everyone. Apple built its reputation on streamlined and user-friendly interfaces, a master of minimalization. That reputation is still intact, but Apple's recent shots at "innovation" have come down to the Google playbook - developing Apple Maps and Siri has proven this doesn't work. Additionally, the biggest advantage for Android has been its approach to consumers as a device for everyone. But Apple's biggest advantage has always been more tribal. Once you buy and use an Apple product, you're part of a culture, which is something you don't necessarily get with Google. But it seems like the stereotypical "Apple" fan that is parodied by late night comedians and wacky sitcoms has scared Apple into steering away from what made legions of fans line up for them in the first place.
