Imagine youre in throes of conversation with someone, only for them to suddenly check out and just silently walk away when youre midway through a sentence, never to be seen again. Youd be fairly pissed off, right? And probably a little alarmed that it appeared youd been chatting up a robot who had suddenly received the call to return immediately to base to take up its rightful place at the head of the Cyborg Army. This is standard behaviour when youre looking for dates online. You can have a great repartee going with someone only for them one day to just cease responding, leaving you to wonder what happened. Was your wit not as sparkling as youd assumed it was? Did they meet The One and immediately drop all other possibilities? Are they dead now? Congratulations, youve just experienced 'ghosting'. But hey, you're just chatting online, right? It's all preamble, so it doesnt really count, so you can't be too miffed. Well, sometimes youll even go out on an actual, real life date with someone, allowing them to see youre a genuine human being. Even then, whether it goes well or not, the odds seem to be against you when it comes to hearing from them either way once youve both made it home. Its at this point I personally prefer to assume they died on their way back to their flat. Usually by being entirely flattened by a double decker bus.
