6 Examples Of How Humanity Is Regressing Not Evolving (By Star Trek Standards)

1. Justification Of Your Actions Based On Religion

Religions

The root of all evil. The use of religion as your excuse for your inhumanity is the epitome of intolerance that should have been left back in the dark ages. The detriment of humankind. Now before you spew your hateful religious rhetoric at me let me explain something to you.

I actually believe in a higher entity (God could have been an Alien), I went to Catholic school and I was a frequent church goer right up until my teens, although nowadays you could call me a "non practicing" catholic. But regardless of my status I have been taught everything there is to know about a little book called the Bible and along with my own efforts to study and learn about other cultures and their religions I feel I may have a enlightened perspective when it comes to the Almighty.

So I don't know where some of you get your belief structure from but it is certainly not the bible I am used to. My priest always taught us (had scriptures every Thursday) that these "stories" are "metaphors" and are not mean't to be taken literally. Rather to be used as a guide to avoid the evil temptations that present themselves to you on your quest to reach a higher plane of existence. Yes, an actual priest taught me that.

NEVER in my experiences with religion as a young child was I taught to exclude anyone because of their race, colour, sexual preferences or own religious beliefs. In fact I was taught that the ONLY way to get into Heaven was to accept them all into your heart, regardless if you perceive their ideology to be wrong or offensive. The WHOLE bible is mean't to be a lesson in tolerance. A lesson that a vast majority of you either completely glossed over or are too ignorant to realize.

And when it comes to the previously mentioned gay community. I don't think a child rapist or serial killer has dibs on a spot next to the Almighty over these people just because of their sexual nature. If that is truly the case then send my arse down to hell cause I want no part of your idea of heaven.

Jesus, whether you believe him to be your savior or just another man of historical significance, lived by a credo of "hey, wouldn't it be great if we could all just get along?" He was not in it for the money, or power (drove the money lenders from the temple don't forget) or celebrity status. He did it for the advancement of humankind, not unlike Neil Armstrong and Co with their epic quest to the moon. Or Gene Roddenberry with his vision of what the future could possibly be.

All of them spoke about the potential we have as a species to evolve. Unfortunately the message has been somewhat lost among the masses. And for those who do use religious rhetoric out of a book that has been significantly edited by men for their own purposes as reasoning behind your intolerance, I leave you with this wonderful quote spoken by Captain Kirk from "Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier.

"Maybe God is not out there. Maybe he is right in here (Kirk points to his chest), the human heart."

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
