6 Reasons Why Intervention In Syria Has Not Happened

6. What If We Do Nothing?

This week has seen rebel forces claim the lives of some the Syrian governments highest officials. President Bashar Al-Assad has reportedly fled the country. It is possible the people of Syria will triumph. Constant stalling by the international community could result in this situation. However, without any aid or assistance, the rebels struggle is made much harder. More importantly, many more civilians are at constant risk and danger. Additionally, there is no way to know what Al-Assad could unleash on the people of Syria with complete freedom to do so. The Arab Spring may still have some life in it. Nevertheless, if you look at Gaddafi€™s overthrowing in Libya as an example, assistance was provided. A no-fly zone was imposed in order to protect civilians. France and the UK assisted with a bombing campaign and all of Gaddafi€™s assets were seized in order to restrict his movements. Action is necessary. It is ignorant and inexcusable for us to do nothing. There is no claim military action needs to be taken, however, if we don€™t help innocent civilians who are being killed in increasing numbers everyday, what does that say about ourselves?
