Our teeth one of the few parts of our bodies that don't repair themselves and,for anyone who doesn't wish to rock the meth head look, breaking them is a nightmare.

The future, how ever, could be looking pearly white, as scientists are working on ways to regrow your gnashers and so far they have managed to figure out, not one way, but three.

First up, some good old fashioned stem cells. Some researchers at the Nova Southeastern University have found a way of growing a sample of dental stem cells around a tooth-shaped scaffold. What's more, you have the option of either growing the tooth in a lab and implanting it, or simply dumping the whole lot into the mouth and growing it in situ.

Secondly, we have a suitably futuristic option of lasers. Since the '60s, scientists have noted that lasers can somehow stimulate tissue growth in the body, and researchers at Harvard have now managed to harness that power to regenerate teeth. The scientists have demonstrated the technology in rats, using the laser to stimulate stem cell regeneration in the dentin of the teeth.

Last but not least, a team from the University of Alberta in Canada have managed to get teeth to repair themselves using ultrasound. The technique has been proven to work in humans, and the technology could be placed into an implant or brace-like device that can be worn in the mouth whilst the tooth regenerates.
