7 Impossible Things Happening Right Now
2. Carbon Reclaim Could Save Us From Climate Change
There's a lot of doom and gloom surrounding the subject of climate change, and for good reason, and many experts now claim that the catastrophic results of warming are unavoidable. They're baked into the system and we're just going to have to sit my and watch it happen.
Whilst most experts think that trying to reverse the effects of our carbon emissions now is like trying to get toothpaste back in the tube, there are some optimists out there that have been beavering away on carbon capturing technology that might just make a difference... if we get a move on with it.
A Vancouver-based start-up called Carbon Engineering has set up a facility that can actually extract the CO2 from the atmosphere, dealing with everyday carbon emissions from buildings, transportation, and agriculture.
The reclaimed CO2 can actually be turned into a traditional fuel with which, although this does release it back into the atmosphere, the net result is zero emissions. If, however, we combined the technology with "cleaner" energy production, then there is the potential to create negative emissions. Could this be the technological breakthrough that saves us from ourselves at the 11th hour? Only time will tell.
