7 Mind-Blowing Art And Science Mash Ups

4. Stranger Visions: Fine Art And Forensics

Heather Dewey-Hagborg spends her time picking up cigarette butts and hair strands from New York City subway stations and sidewalks. She takes her treasured finds to a lab, studies them under a microscope and performs forensic DNA phenotyping techniques.

She’s curious about the people who puffed on those cigarettes: Were they young or old? Were their eyes brown or blue? Were they of Eastern European or Asian descent?

Is Heather Dewey-Hagborg a forensic scientist? Maybe even a spy? Nope, she is an artist who creates stunning portrait sculptures from the analyses of genetic material. Check out her amazing (albeit slightly creepy) 3D portraits here.
