7 People Who Are Probably Invincible

2. The Girl Who Survived A Plane Wreck

The story of Juliane Koepcke is a bit like Lost. But less confusing, more terrifying and with no other survivors. In 1971, the 17-year old was flying over the Peruvian rainforest with her mother (in a plane, obvs), when the aircraft was struck by lightning. The plane went down and Juliane fell 10,000 feet into the jungle below and woke up to find herself alone, with a broken collarbone, ruptured ligaments in her knee and deep wounds all over her body. She wandered through the jungle for 10 days wearing only one shoe and a minidress. She had enough knowledge of the jungle to know that she should stick to the rivers, walking in the water, because it was safer than risking the snakes and poisonous plants in the undergrowth. By day ten, one of her wounds was maggot infested and she was slowly starving to death, but she kept walking. It was then that she came across a hut with an outboard motor, so she cleaned her wound with gasoline (not advisable) before coming across a group of locals who finally helped her back to civilisation.
