3. The Deepest Man On Earth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N7fJec4jjQ Herbert Nitsch is, by all accounts, half man half fish. He has been awarded the title of "the Deepest Man On Earth", and not because he spouts profound wisdom. He is currently the world record holder for the deepest free dive on a single breath, reaching depths of 214 metres, or 700 feet. At that depth, the lungs of a diver are compressed to practically nothing and are susceptible to collapse. In another attempt to reach depths of over 831 feet, Nitsch blacked out on his ascent and had to be rescued by safety divers. He said that, at his maximum depth he lost consciousness due to narcosis and, terrifyingly, only woke up again on the ascent. He then had to undergo extensive decompression treatment at the surface to decompression sickness or "the bends". Oh, and he casually holds over 30 other world records for free diving. The jury is still out on whether he's actually a whale in a man suit.
