1. Amazon Workers Face "Increased Risk Of Mental Illness"
Fundamentally, then, this is what it all comes down to:
according to Professor Michael Marmot - a leading expert in the UK on work-related stress - who was shown secret footage of the inner-workers of an Amazon warehouse, employees at the company are genuinely facing an "increased risk of mental illness" just from completing their day to day activities. That's not an allegation that can be taken likely, especially from an expert in the field. But can these recent revelations help the online retailer to move onwards and upwards? Can they turn these claims into a positive? It seems they've got to address a few serious issues first. "The characteristics of this type of job, the evidence shows increased risk of mental illness and physical illness," said Professor Marmont. He also added that "there are always going to be menial jobs, but we can make them better or worse. And it seems to me the demands of efficiency at the cost of individual's health and wellbeing - it's got to be balanced." As of now, Amazon don't seem to be able to find the right balance, though one thing's for sure: the current system isn't working. Time for a change?
