8 Comedians Who Received Serious Death Threats For Their Jokes

7. Amy Schumer

Schumer is widely considered a national treasure. There's nothing she hasn't touched in the last couple of years that hasn't turned to gold. Love her or love to hate her, she's on her way to being one of the most prolific comedians of all time. Back when Schumer was still cutting her teeth in the business--and could still unironically be introduced to crowds as "fourth runner up in Season 5 of Last Comic Standing"--she appeared on Comedy Central's The Roast of Charlie Sheen. While at the podium, Schumer briefly directed attention to Steve-O, cast member of MTV's Jackass. Only a few short months prior to the taping of the roast, Steve-O's friend and colleague, Ryan Dunn, had died in a drinking-and-driving accident. With that in mind, Schumer turned to the dais to offer the following: "I truly am--no joke--sorry for the loss of your friend, Ryan Dunn. I know you must have been thinking 'It could've been me.' And I know we were all thinking 'Why wasn't it?'" Fans of Jackass took to sending her death threats in hordes, calling her every obscene name in the book. Schumer has since detailed how scary the aftermath was, particularly when she was scheduled to perform a show in Ryan Dunn's hometown a few months later. She considered a few of the threats serious enough that she canceled a couple of ensuing gigs.
