We all know that red hair is a recessive trait, thanks to the internet rumour that circulates ever now and again claiming that redheads will die out in the coming years (not true, by the way). Whilst another internet rumour that redheads have no soul is still yet to be proven, it could be true that they actually experience pain differently to their less-vibrant counterparts. This is probably due to the variation of the MCR1 that produces red hair and restricts melanin production (producing the common traits of pale skin and blue/green eyes) also has some effect on certain areas of the brain (which might, might, also go some way to explaining their reputation for "feistiness"). Some research has shown that redheads are more sensitive to the cold, but have a higher tolerance for stinging pain and spicy food. This is probably a good thing, as they are also less responsive to anaesthetics when they are injected under the skin. They also tend to suffer from more toothaches. So, if your significant other is a redhead, they might whinge about the cold a bit more, but they'll be able to tough it out for tattoos, injections and curry-eating contests.
