3. Double Eyelashes
Moving away from the heavy world of life-threatening diseases, there's a more frivolous effect of gene mutation: Lovely thick eyelashes. Also known as distichiasis, the mutation is a dominant trait that causes two full rows of eyelashes to sprout on each lid. Elizabeth Taylor famously had this mutation, as well as the one for
violet eyes (basically, she just had frigging beautiful eyes). It's not all good news though as distichiasis can cause corneal scratching, scarring and is even related to some pretty nasty disorders like Lymphedema resulting in swollen limbs and varicose veins. Not to rain on your parade or anything. It can be difficult to tell whether you are a double-lashed mutant as it does not always guarantee a visibly luscious set of lashes. If you lift up your top eyelid to expose the waterline (as though you were
tight-lining your eyes, ladies) and can see eyelashes sprouting from
below the waterline as well as above it, you have double lashes. Proceed with caution, however, as seeing lashes sprouting from where they shouldn't could cause you to think there's something poking in your eye for the rest of your life.
