8 Harry Potter Characters JK Rowling Really Didn't Have To Kill

2. & 1. Remus Lupin And Nymphadora Tonks

Lupin and Tonks count as a single entry here, as one of their deaths might have been just about bearable. Two more victims of the Battle of Hogwarts, Remus and Nymphadora left behind their infant son Ted when they answered their call to arms. By this point Remus Lupin was the last surviving member of The Marauders (of magic map fame) and the last of Harry€™s father€™s best friends. With Uncle Sirius a goner at the hands of Bellatrix LeStrange, Remus was the last direct connection Harry had to his parents, though his dad€™s old school chum wasn€™t allowed to see out the chaos. Losing a duel with big time Death Eater Antolin Dolohov, Lupin was killed pretty early doors when the fighting began, and his wife was close behind him, another name on Bellatrix€™s impressive hit list. €œHarry had a clear view of the bodies lying next to Fred: Remus and Tonks, still pale and peaceful-looking, apparently asleep beneath the enchanted ceiling.€ If only. JK dispensed with the newlyweds and left little Teddy an orphan, set to go through some of the same trials and tribulations as Harry only with the added complication of werewolf blood. At least Lupin was able to pass on a message whilst briefly brought back with the resurrection stone, but for me the only redemption for this double blow would be to give Ted Tonks his very own book.
