8 Huge Facebook Parties That Got Totally Out Of Control

8. The Kate Party

To kick off the start of this list this is the only one that didn't physically manifest. There are some who question the validity of this infamous party, which spawned dozens to hundreds of hoax imitators attempting to gain 15 minutes of fame. One Australian woman from Adelaide, Kate Miller, made an event for a small birthday party. Just a few mates getting drinks together. It's uncertain how long it took for the first 10,000 attendees to join the event but just 14 hours later there was a total of 60,000 people invited to "Kate's Birthday Party". The poor girl didn't know how to cancel the event, which explains a lot, so she made posts and changed the description until she learnt how to. Perhaps there was a good Samaritan or she realised that she was on the internet and more specifically a website with a Bible-sized FAQs section. Critics say due to her perceived inability to comprehend Facebook's customizable privacy settings that present itself to the user when making an event, multiple users creating fake accounts under the name Kate Miller and numerous copycats following recreating similar circumstances, that this could have been fake. If it wasn't it certainly started a trend. In fact, these large events are so common nowadays, news reports don't even bother telling you as it is hard to sensationalise such a general internet phenomena. This is the only one on this list that didn't result in any physical damage or any real legal ramifications that went anywhere, but the emotional damage is there for the poor lady right at the centre of it.
