This one combines ancient text with modern astronomy - surely some kind of Valhalla for your average apocalypse enthusiast?

There are various iterations of the "There's A F**K-Off Big Planet Out To Get Us" scenario, going by various names - The Planet X Apocalypse, The Nibiru Cataclysm, whatever you like - but many of them have their basis in a mixture of the same sources. Firstly, an ancient Sumerian tablet uncovered in the Middle East that seemed to depict a solar system with 11 planets. Now, if this was the case, then the Sumerians were either aware of a totally different solar system to ours, or aware of an extra planet to those known in modern times (if we count Pluto and Sedna).

Secondly, in 1995, a woman called Nancy Lieder claimed that she was receiving messages from extraterrestrials from the Zeta Reticuli star system through an implant in her brain, who she claimed were warning her of a great celestial body that would go barrelling through our solar system.

Thirdly, some astronomers have actually claimed to have detected an enormous gravitating body in the outer solar system.

Put this all together in various different combinations, and many believe that we are on the cusp of having the Earth's surface ripped clean off by the giant planet that is about to come hurtling out of the Oort Cloud.
