8 Insane Things Celebrities Actually Believe Are Real Science
5. Gwyneth Paltrow Reckons Water Has Feelings
Yes, really.
Our Gwyneth has basically made a career out of finding the most moronic pseudo scientific claims out there and using them to sell overpriced moisturiser to idiots. No, seriously, Gwyneth Paltrow is wrong about literally almost everything.
Among the many claims of this fatuous woo-merchant, Paltrow subscribes to the idea that water can respond to human consciousness as detailed in a book by Dr. Masaru Emoto (or to give him his proper title, Masaru Emoto) called The Hidden Messages Of Water.
The book documents experiments in which the good non-doctor wrote words like "I hate you" and "fear" on vials of water which, apparently, turned into grey lumps when frozen. On the other hand, water exposed to words such as "I love you" and "thank you" produced beautiful hexagonal crystals. Oh, and he also did it with music. Apparently water hates heavy metal.
Astonishingly, when invited to demonstrate this for James Randi's One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge, he declined.
Paltrow, you might be disappointed - but not wholly surprised - to learn, thinks this is all absolutely fascinating. In her blog she writes, "I am fascinated by the growing science behind the energy of consciousness and its effects on matter," proving that it is indeed possible to write a whole sentence that doesn't mean anything at all.
