8 Must-Listen Comedy Podcasts

3. The Dana Gould Hour

Screen Shot 2013 12 31 At 21 04 01 My first instinct is to say that Dana Gould should put out more shows. He is, by far, the best improvisational comic on this list, and could probably release a show every week. Half the fun of The Dana Gould Hour, though, comes from the anticipation of the next release. While some podcasts feature little to no editing, Gould's is far better produced. He has regular bits like the hilarious "Two Guys from Boston," co-starring Mr. Show alumnus John Ennis. Seemingly disparate conversations are stitched together over a retro, Latin jazz beat. Regular, Paul Harvey-esque informative pieces are among the show's highlights, covering such topics as Bela Lugosi movies and Charles Manson. Even Gould's obsessions with Ed Wood, Charlton Heston and Kiss seem to make it into every show. If the man's name is familiar, you've either been into comedy since the eighties or you're a big Simpsons fan. Gould's initial claim to fame was his uncanny ability to mimic celebrities like Vincent Price. He was a writer and guest performer on The Ben Stiller Show, but had his longest tenure as a writer and co-executive producer on The Simpsons. He's on the internet now, and we couldn't be happier.

Check out "The Champ" by my alter ego, Greg Forrest, in Heater #12, at http://fictionmagazines.com. I used to do a mean Glenn Danzig impression. Now I just hang around and co-host The Workprint podcast at http://southboundcinema.com/.
