The benefits of buying a Surface 2 don't just stop at the excellent screen, Live Tiles and awesome OS. Consider the 200GB OneDrive storage, Office suite, Outlook, full size USB 3.0 port, microSD reader, the year's free Skype international calls, the first party ModernUI apps (RDP, Hyper-V manager, FreshPaint, Health and Fitness, Food and Drink with the fantastic feature of waving your dirty hands in front of the camera to move the recipe forward) as well as all the other apps and features mentioned previously the £359 for a 32GB Surface 2 starts to look like an absolute bargain. You also get streaming on the excellent Xbox Music, like Spotify only better, and for £8.99 a month you can download as many albums as you have space for. Sending the kids off to college or university? Get them a Surface 2. It's light and comes with all the software they need. No worries about viruses or downloading dodgy software and they can call you using Skype to ask for more money when they're skint. Enjoy doing more than one thing at a time? Looking for a new tablet but the iPad just seems too limited and you actually value your personal data? Get a Surface instead of the Android tablet. The desktop market collapsed because the iPad showed people that they didn't really need to sit in front of a black box for email and Facebook. But more and more people are finding the iPad limited in a world of multi-tasking and multi-screening. Android is far from free and the amount of personal data collected by the tablet for advertising is, for some, enough to put them off entirely. Microsoft's attitude is different. You pay them a licence when you buy the Surface 2 and in return they set the defaults to Do Not Track, ask you to opt IN to their personalisation programs, not out and provide a plethora of integrated services and apps. For those who just want a tablet, the Surface 2 is a fantastic rival to any of the other options out there. But for some it could truly be a desktop replacement, anyone who wants a tablet they can use for more than just the fun stuff should make the Surface 2 their next purchase.
