2. It's The Applications Stupid
You will all no doubt be aware that the Google Play Store and AppStore from Apple have significantly more apps than the Windows Store. There is no Silverlight (although why is still a mystery since it is Microsoft technology and would allow SkyGo and LoveFilm to work but I digress) but Flash player is present and correct so for the services where they haven't created a Windows app yet you have IE11, a full featured, modern browser to access the web version. Then you should send the company an email requesting a Windows app. The more people who buy the Surface the more chance your app will come along. But the key point about Windows 8 apps is that those that have been produced by the larger companies, and some notable smaller ones, are of a very high standard indeed. Windows apps with the added flexibility of the OS tend to be more engaging and of a higher standard than some of their iOS and Android versions or equivalents. This is dependent upon the developers but those that use the features of the OS like Share, Play To etc are building compelling and flexible apps. Swipe up from the bottom for application specific options or open the Charms menu to access settings or devices. It's all very fluid and intuitive. First party apps in particular like Bing Maps (with a new version currently in Preview) Bing News, Translator, OneNote, Weather, Sport are all feature packed and richly textured, not a hint of skeu-morphing anywhere to be found here. But other third party apps are just as impressive. Nokia have built some apps for their Surface rival but it would be expected that those would port over once the merger goes through. They have also been using their developer base and contacts to entice other developers to port their work over to Windows Modern UI. There may be fewer apps in the Windows Store, but those that are there are very good and those that aren't are coming. Don't chose a device just because an app you like isn't on it, get the best device available and make the company build an app for it.
