8 Ways JK Rowling Could Continue The Harry Potter Series

5. Somebody New And The Something Else

Before Sauron, there was Melkor. Before Voldemort, we had Grindelwald. The point is, evil never dies, especially when considering epic fantasy books; it only lies dormant, waiting to strike again. In a world like Harry Potter€™s, there are thousands of different ways for Dark Magic to flourish and take over: for all we know Lord Voldemort and his Horcruxes could be only the tip of the iceberg of horrible things. (And, come on. If He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named can be defeated by the power of love, there has got to be something bigger and badder out there.) Although Harry Potter is billed as €˜for children,€™ there€™s no denying that it has a an unnerving dark side; from the chilling Cruciatus curse and the eerie Inferi to the truly frightening Dementors, just to name a few of the more hair-raising elements of the series. The point is, the possibilities for evil are endless. So, after the Second Wizarding War, the magical community enjoys a time of peace where Purebloods, Muggle-borns and Muggles live together in (relative) harmony. Until... As Mr. Potter, the saviour of the Wizarding World lies on his deathbed, whispers of evil lurk just out of sight around the corners of the peaceful magical society he strived to protect. A new, all-powerful Dark wizard (a protégé of Voldemort€™s, perhaps? A Pureblood supremacist? Or just another kid with a troubled past and ruthless ambition given access to horrendous and malevolent magic?) will rise, and a new hero must emerge to fight against him, using the counsel of some familiar faces who fought in the last war against evil, lest the world be plunged into darkness once more. While more exciting than Harry€™s kids€™ Hogwarts hijinks, perhaps this one is in danger of being a completely contrived parody of the first beloved series, so caution should be exercised.
