Known as one of the most energetic performers in Hollywood, Jim Carrey is famous for his roles in mainstream comedies and dramas. Despite now being one of the industry's most sought-after stars, Carrey had a troubled upbringing. Carrey experienced homelessness at the young age of 12, after his father was made redundant. For a time, the family were forced to live out of a van, and Carrey quit school at 15 in order to provide financial support as a janitor. "I'd have a baseball bat on my janitor cart because I was so angry I just wanted to beat the heck out of something," recalls Carrey in an interview on Inside the Actors Studio. The actor has frequently mentioned that it was this tough early life that gave him the drive to succeed in Hollywood.
