9 Extraordinary Superpowers That Literally Everybody Has

3. Your Can Turn Your Ears Up And Down

If someone unexpectedly shrieks in your ear, it usually takes quite a bit of self-control not to swing for them, because that hurts. So, how come you don't deafen yourself when you're screaming and cheering at a game or a gig? I mean, you're mouth is right there and it's pretty loud. Turns out that your clever old brain actually turns down your hearing when you shout with something called a "middle ear reflex". It essentially dampens your auditory neurons whenever it knows that a loud noise is incoming. It's basically the same reason why you go temporarily deaf after a loud noise (aside from the damage that causes). It is the same kind of reflex that allows animals such as bats to tell the difference between the sounds they make and the sound bouncing back to them as the echolocate. Some scientists reckon that these kinds of sensory reflexes could help explain thing like why its impossible to do things like tickle yourself and, indeed, damage your own hearing.
