9 Extraordinary Superpowers That Literally Everybody Has
4. You Are Bioluminescent
A lot of deep sea creatures are known for having those pretty lights to brighten up the dark sea bed, but don't feel left out because nature also invited you to the bioluminescence party. You might not exactly be the Human Torch, but the human body has been found to emit visible light as a by-product of the chemical reactions involving free-radicals in your body. Unfortunately, the light is 1,000 times less intense than can be detected by the naked eye, but scientists have managed to glimpse it using a highly-sensitive camera. These "visible light" emissions are in addition to the infrared radiation, just a little further along the electromagnetic spectrum, given off as heat. Your face glows more than the rest of your body, possibly due to the higher levels of melanin in the skin thanks to increased sun exposure. Because the glow is linked to the body's metabolic processes, and fluctuates in accordance to our circadian rhythms, some experts reckon that we could use it to detect some medical conditions. There you are then, when someone says that you're "glowing" (as they surely often do), they're more right than they think.
