9 Huge Mistakes In The Harry Potter Books You Didn't Even Notice

1. Harry Potter And The Time Travelling PlayStation

When writing a book set in a specific time period, keeping track of technology must be incredibly tough...which is why Rowling unfortunately slips up when describing an exchange between Harry Potter and Sirius Black in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.

During a letter to Sirius, Harry tells his godfather that his cousin Dudley became enraged by something petty and threw his PlayStation console out the window. This is around the time of Harry's fourteenth birthday, which takes place in the year 1994. However, the PlayStation console wasn't released until almost a year and a half later in Europe, and wasn't even released in Japan until the end of 1994.

This mistake might seem mundane, and in the grand scheme of things it is, but it just goes to show how many considerations authors have to make when writing, well... anything, really.
