9 Inventors Who Were Killed By Their Creations
3. James "Jim" Fixx
Who says exercise is good for you?
The man who is said to have popularised jogging in 1970s America is said to have died of a massive heart attack on his morning run.
His book "The Complete Book of Running" sold over a million copies and was wildly popular on its release in '77. Ironically, Fixx took up running because he was worried about his heart health, having had his father die of a heart attack when he was just 35.
Experts are unsure as to whether it was purely the jogging that killed Fixx as he led an extremely unhealthy lifestyle before taking up the hobby. When he started running at the age of 35, he was 240 pounds and smoked two packs of cigarettes a day. This coupled with his hereditary disposition for heart disease and the added strain of training will have all contributed to the heart attack that killed him.
Despite the fact that Fixx was 60 pounds lighter and a non-smoker when he died at the age of 43, it appears that you just can't outrun that kind of unhealthy lifestyle.
