9 Mistakes In Stephen King Books You Never Even Noticed

6. The Gunslinger - Animals Randomly Become Cross Breeds

This one might be short, but it's relatively amusing nevertheless. It takes place in the Dark Tower book titled The Gunslinger which was published in 1982. The Dark Tower series is often considered to be King's magnum opus, which makes it all the more interesting that there's a mistake within the first couple chapters.

The Gunslinger focuses on Roland Deschain and his trek through a vast desert in search of the mysterious man in black. In chapter two, Roland is described as leading a donkey through the desert. Literally within the same chapter, however, the description changes from a donkey to a mule, and sticks with mule for the remainder of the novel.

Unless the initial donkey found a mare (which incidentally is a female horse), got her pregnant and she then birthed a mule, all within a few hours, the animal randomly becomes a crossbreed for no good reason.
