9 People Who Abused Drugs In Nazi Germany
1. Adolf Hitler
Hitler liked to present himself as a teetotaller, who didn’t smoke, drink alcohol or coffee. In 1930 it was reported that “He doesn’t drink, he practically only eats vegetables, and he doesn’t touch women.”
However, Hitler’s drug abuse is the most well recorded and most extensive of anybody on this list. Dr Morrell’s books reveal that he provided Hitler with over 90 kinds of pills over the course of the war. Hitler would take up to 28 different pills a day. He would also have between 8-10 injections per week.
The drugs he used included Cocaine (this was to treat sinus issues), as well as the opioid Eukodal. By 1944, each of his doses of Eukodal were four times the recommended amount. He had track marks on his arms, because of his regular injections. It is speculated whether his severe tremors were due to Parkinson’s disease, or his drug habit. So much for being a teetotaller.
