9 Ridiculous Urban Legends We All Believed
8. Pokémon Lavender Town
Putting rumours aside for one second, why did the game include a Pokémon graveyard in the first place? For a game that made sure that the monsters didn't die at the end of a battle, it was a strange addition for GameFreak to come out and announce that your favourite characters are going to die for real one day.
Of course, that isn't the most morbid part of the Lavender Town story. Since its release, rumours have circulated that attempt to link the original soundtrack to a number of child suicides in Japan. Within the theme for Lavender Town, there was said to be hidden frequencies that were only audible to young children.
The high-pitched tone caused children to act irrationally or left them with physical afflictions such as migraines. In extreme cases, victims of Lavender Town Syndrome would take their own life, most commonly by hanging or jumping from heights.
Depending on where you hear the legend, a least one hundred children were said to have given their lives after reaching Lavender Town. Despite so many believing the tale to be real, it is all based upon a creepypasta from 2010 posted by an anonymous user.
