9 Ridiculous Urban Legends We All Believed
2. Walt Disney's On Ice
When Walt Disney passed away in 1966, scientists were working hard on cryogenic research. Disney was fascinated with future technology and paid a keen interest in cryogenics, especially in his later years as his health started to fail him.
His interest in the subject, combined with his immense wealth meant he could be frozen before he died from the lung cancer that had afflicted him. The hope was that he would be frozen and revived once a proven cure was found. To ensure no-one could dig him up, Disney insisted he be buried in a secret location on the grounds of Disneyland, California.
Of course, none of that is true and has been debunked on numerous occasions by family as well as Bob Nelson, former president of the Cryonics Society of California. The family opened the Walt Disney Family Museum in an attempt to dispel rumours, while Nelson was much more direct.
In 1972, Nelson spoke to the Los Angeles Times and brought up Disney's desire to be frozen. He stated, "the truth is, Walt missed out". It was not possible to attempt, due to Disney not putting his wish in writing and the family didn't go for the idea.
