9 Scariest People To Have Ever Lived

6. Edward Theodore Gein

Ed Gein was the man who inspired the likes of Norman Bates and Leatherface. He was born in Wisconsin and as a little boy was obsessed with both his mother and the female anatomy. This obsession grew when his mother died and he found solace and comfort in the corpses of other women. That's right, their corpses: he dug up graves, dismembered the cadavers and performed sex acts on them. And of course he would take body parts and skin in order to decorate his home. He would drink soup from human skulls, take the skin from corpses and he would wear it in the forms of leggings, corsets and as a mask. Skulls were found all over his bed post, body parts were found in boxes including female genitals and a belt made from nipples. Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden were his two victims, both women were in their 50s and were local business owners in Gein's hometown. It was Worden's son who was also a sheriff noticed that Gein was seen in town on the day of his mother's disappearance. He decided to visit Ed at his home for questioning and was disgusted at what he found in Gein's barn. His own mother had been mutilated. Her headless, naked body was hanging upside down, slit open down the front. Her organs were removed and her heart was on a plate in Gein's kitchen. Somewhat mercifully, she was shot in the head before he mutilated her lifeless body. Ultimately, he was found guilty for his crimes but was also declared mentally unstable and spent the rest of his life in a psychiatric ward where he died at the age of seventy seven from heart failure.
