9 Things We Learned From CIA Agent Mike Baker On Joe Rogan's Podcast
4. Is Tik Tok A Threat?
Over the last few years, there's been an increased awareness regarding social media and the power it has over us. It's made many realise that money is not the main source of power anymore, information is. Since many of us have willingly entered thousands of data points about ourselves on these platforms, it gives the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram a mass amount of leverage of their users.
One of the newest challengers to the more established social media platforms is Tik Tok. While it might be a too Generation Z for those of us who grew up in the MySpace era - that's right, we're old now - Tik Tok is huge among young people who want to be on social media. In case you're not quite as hip as you used to be, Tik Tok allows users to make videos of themselves dancing or performing funny skits to try and entertain their friends.
So what makes something that sounds like wholesome fun, a genuine threat to US security?According to Baker, the government doesn't want members of the military using it as it's been created by a Beijing-based company. The fear is that they'll be able to use it to hack the phones of those individuals and find information that might be considered potentially sensitive. Scary stuff.
