Amanda Knox Verdict - Not Guilty of Meredith Kercher Murder, Released From Prison.

Amanda Knox, the American exchange student who was convicted of the brutal murder of her British roomate Meredith Kircher in 2007 and who has spent the last four years in jail, is to be set free. Amanda Knox was found guilty of slander against a police officer who she had accused of slapping her during questioning. A crime which was judged to be worthy of a three year sentence. However, as Knox had already served four years in prison, she was immediately set free by the Italian Court. Dubbed €œFoxy Knoxy€ by the press, Knox was convicted of committing the crime at just 20 years of age with her two accomplishes €“ Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and Ivory Coast native Rudy Guede. The case for the defence in the appeal was focused around flawed DNA evidence on the murder weapon and that the rest of the evidence that convicted her was unsubstantiated and all circumstantial. Speaking in Italian, Amanda Knox said earlier in her closing statement; "I did not kill, I did not rape, I did not steal. I was not there." She added: "I want to go back home. I want to go back to my life. I don't want to be punished. I don't want my life and my future to be taken away for something I didn't do because I am innocent." Amanda Knox is now free to live the rest of her life and will return to America tonight. The verdict was announced at 9.45pm local time following a day of deliberations from the six jurors and two judges. The verdict, however, is not expected to be the last that we will hear of the case, as prosecutors have threatened to file brand new murder charges against Amanda Knox for the killing of Meredith.
