9. Hex - The Legend Of The Towers

Way before the grounds were opened up to the public in order to raise funds and Merlin Entertainments Group earned the rights to opening a theme park, Alton Towers was a private estate with a long and not so happy past. The grounds has a history that can be traced back all the way to the 11th century Norman conquest, and Hex - The Legend Of The Towers is an experience that immerses visitors to the park in some of the darker, more mysterious sides to that that history.

Taking place inside the very heart of the old Towers, this walk through takes visitors through the eerie dark corridors of the estate and tells the story of the Earl of Shrewsbury and the curse put on him by an old woman. According to the legend, the old woman cursed an old Oak tree on the estate and ensured that, whenever one of the branches fell, the Earl would suffer a death in the family.

The experience culminates in riders getting to see the last branch chained in the Earl's lost vault, where the room begins to spin around and really start to mess with physics...
