Every Major Alton Towers Ride Ranked Worst To Best

8. Congo River Rapids

River Rapids are always a real crowd-favourite at any amusement park, but Alton Towers owns one of the most standout editions found anywhere in the UK.

Found in the Katanga Canyon, it is actually the oldest of any major ride still operational in the park, having first opened back in 1986. Riders hop on board a colourful dingy and set off down a river filled with rough currents and sharp turns.

As well as featuring a dark tunnel and twin waterfalls, Alton Towers' Congo River Rapids also fits its theme better than most other rides in this list, which is obviously important for a theme park. The ride is located near to the Runaway Train ride, and the rapids will take riders alongside the train's course, as well as giving them some pretty cool views of the railway's more exciting parts.

Just like with most other rapids rides in other parks, the Congo River Rapids can provide a real nice change of pace for visitors to Alton Towers. The ride will last around five minutes and the attention to detail in its theme helps to keep it as popular now as it was back in the 80s, 90s and 2000s.
