How To Escape From Alcatraz In 10 Easy Steps

6. Make Dummy Heads To Fool The Guards

Regular head counts of the inmates were performed in the prison throughout the day and night. This meant that the men were going to have to come up with a way to convince the guards that they were still in bed while they made their daring escape from the island. To fool the guards the men crafted dummy heads to place in their beds, giving the impression that they were sleeping.

They made the heads out of materials they had laying around in their cells. By mushing up soap and toilet paper the men were able to make a form of papier mache which they in turn fashioned into a head shape. To make their faux-heads even more realistic, they even dressed them with real human hair that Clarence Anglin had been able to steal due to his job in the prisons barber shop.
