A Song Of Ice And Fire: 9 Essential Questions For The Winds Of Winter

2. Will Dany Finally Arrive In Westeros?

Daeny At this point, readers are just annoyed Dany has not even attempted to cross the Narrow Sea: five, almost six, books into the series and she is still stuck in Essos. How many more complicated names, colorful hairstyles, and exotic living souls can GRRM write about? Maybe I should not have asked that. Earlier I said maybe the unexpected death of one of her dragons is finally the motivation for Dany to leave, but maybe the reason won't be that severe. Currently, Meeren is at war with its self while Dany is somewhere in the Dothraki Sea. Her Queensguard, Barristan Selmy, is leading the defense against the Meerenese and Yunkish forces - judging by his TWoW chapters, Barristan's fate seems very grim. What if Barristan's death, instead, pushes Dany when she returns? We also have learned Victarion Greyjoy has arrived in Meeren ready to take Dany as his bride. What could go down is Barristan and Victarion join forces in the battle, but Barristan dies in combat. When Dany arrives, Victarion gives his iron fleet to her in return for her hand. She reluctantly agrees and her homecoming finally commences. Hopefully her experiences as queen in Meeren have taught her a lesson, that she cannot save everyone and everything. War, starvation, and plague cannot be prevented through love and caring. She has to attack Westeros now or never. Or she could never leave. Sadly, that is a possibility also.
