Sony Bravia 55-inch KDL-55HX853 3D LCD TV Review

Picture and Audio

rating:4.5

Now, let€™s get to the real meat of the review; the picture and sound quality. I mean, what can I say? It€™s incredible. The picture is unbelievably crisp and the levels of colour €“ the definition and temperature €“ are, for lack of a better word, perfect. Watching a Blu-ray on this monster TV is like washing your face in moving image. The 3D€well, it€™s 3D. Obviously wearing the silly glasses diminishes the overall quality and the levels of crispness slightly, but for the most part (and depending on how close you€™re sitting) you€™ll be gifted with a 3D experience that€™s as near as damn it to what you€™ll get in a theatre. My only qualm is that, despite this being a 3D TV, no glasses come in the box, meaning you€™ll have to splash out a little more (a decent set of these specs will set you back around £30) if you€™re interested in using the 3D function. Sound wise, the speaker that comes provided with the 55€ Sony Bravia is more than adequate for small to medium rooms; however one can€™t help wonder if it€™ll flounder to send fully immersive sound around a larger space. That said, if you€™re splashing out this much on a TV (£1,438.90 on Amazon) then the chances are you€™ll have your own cinematic sound rig ready to go. If not, you€™d do much worse than the featured speaker stand. As I said, it does its job more than adequately, just don€™t expect high-end cinema quality immersion.
