Hoards of theatre-goers race from their pre-show meals to their insanely expensive shows while staring at Google maps on their phone and barrelling determinedly into whoever crosses their path. The South Bank is just as bad with the added peril of being knocked directly into the Thames by someone stopping abruptly to take a photo of the Eye. But during the day? London's theatres are more or less abandoned but, mostly, still open to the public. The Actors Centre in Soho- connected to the Tristan Bates- has a quiet cafe with cozy corners surrounded by books. The Soho Theatre's bar area buzzes gently throughout the afternoon before exploding with arts hipsters round 6pm. But best of all is The National. The Understudy, the theatre's craft beer pub, is almost deserted most weekdays and has cheap coffee, good booze and free wifi. Soak up the tranquil atmosphere and make sure to scamper before the after-work crowd arrives.
Brydie is an Australian writer and performer living in London and she complains exactly the same amount about the weather as every other Australian living in London. Yes, that is her natural lip colour, no, she will not be taking any further questions at this time.
