Wilt Chamberlain's retirement left a gaping hole at the heart of the LA Lakers, but they responded by trading for one of the most unplayable superstars the NBA has ever seen (and the league's all-time leading points scorer), 7'12" Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Armed with an unblockable hook shot, the centre was disgruntled at a Milwaukee Bucks team he had already led to one championship. The Lakers uprooted Abdul-Jabbar in return for four players of their own, none of whom could propel the Bucks to any further glory. Kareem was a different story, leading the Lakers to a further five rings between 1980 and 1988. Rarely has a single trade resulted in such a period of dominance - but that's exactly what Kareem's move did, ensuring that the Lakers owned much of the 1980s.
