10 Best Ever NBA Trades

4. Boston Celtics - Red Auerbach Builds A Powerhouse

Having overseen the Celtics' early domination of the NBA as head coach, Red Auerbach was determined to have a similarly successful influence as the team's general manager (and later president). He did so in just a single trade with the Golden State Warriors, establishing a unit which would go on to win three championships in six years. Already in possession of unstoppable rookie-of-the-year Larry Bird, Boston traded their upcoming first and thirteenth draft picks to the Golden State Warriors for a third-place pick and centre Robert Parish. They then used the third pick to draft Kevin McHale, forming a big three who would go on to dominate the league for years to come - especially in the 1985/6 season, a team often considered the best in NBA history.
