Few players can make claim to having a bigger nightmare on their debut for a club than current Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate.

After sealing a surprise move to Real back in 2004, things got off to the worst possible start for the England man.

Woodgate bided his time while he awaited his debut in Madrid but suffered a terrible first showing. He scored an own goal and was sent off for his new club in a debut performance which essentially summed up his entire time in Spain.

He struggled with injuries once more just as he was making his way in the first-team and he moved back to England after only two years with the Spanish giants.

Woodgate's career in its entirety can be put in the 'not living up to the hype' category, and while a lot of it was not his fault thanks to luck with injuries, there's no doubting his spell in Spain was a massive disappointment.
