10 Biggest Brendan Rodgers Mistakes As Liverpool Manager
4. Never Settling On A Formation Or Philosophy
José Mourinho is The Special One. Kenny Dalglish was King Kenny. Apparently some call Brendan Rodgers Buck Rodgers, but a more apposite nickname would be The Headless Chicken. It's been clear ever since he took over as manager at Anfield that the former Swansea boss has absolutely no clue what to do with the team. Maybe he turned up with a set of tactics that didn't pan out, or maybe he never actually settled on a style of play and that's why he shuffles his formations, seemingly at random, every single match. In the space of one season the team swapped from from 451 to 352 to 442 to 433 to a diamond formation, always different from game to game. A lack of consistency is one of the key reasons for Rodgers' failure at Liverpool. When players don't know where they'll be playing day-to-day or even if they will be playing or whether they're playing defensive, attacking or passing football, there's no way to settle into one rhythm and eventually get really good at it. Instead they're running around like headless chickens.
