10 Biggest Brendan Rodgers Mistakes As Liverpool Manager
3. Playing The Second Team In Competition
At the time of writing, Brendan Rodgers is the only Liverpool manager since the fifties who hasn't won a single trophy during three years at the club. It's taken half a century for Anfield to suffer through as disastrous as gaffer as Rodgers. Well, it was a good run. Strangely, the manager doesn't seem at all fussed about fixing that sad statistic. He instead remains entirely fixated on the Premier League, rather than the European football where Liverpool have traditionally triumphed, to the point that he purposefully plays B-teams in the Champion's League so that his main players have chance to rest up and get that much-sought-after fourth place behind the Manchester teams and Chelsea. This frankly bonkers policy reached a nadir when, facing Real Madrid in the Champion's League in 2014, he effectively played the second team for the first leg. It was like waving a white flag from the whistle. The worst part was that he wanted to focus on the Premier League so that they might qualify for the Champion's League next season...
